Why does my Back Hurt?
Sore neck is a common phenomenon among people of all ages especially those who have crossed 40 years. There may be many reasons for your back being hurt and if not properly attended to this complication, it might lead you to aggravated back pain which may need surgical treatment in the long run. Although ergonomic reasons are cited to be the primary cause of stiff neck, there are other factors affecting the position of the back portion which are the causes of your back being hurt.
Continuous wear and tear of the cartilage at the spinal column cumulates during periods when you sit still for hours together without taking any alternative posture. If you have to sit still for hours which your job demands, then you should use the right tool for the purpose to reduce stress. Keeping to right postures is an effective way in the treatment of back pain. Maintaining ergonomic position can be very fruitful while fighting degenerative disc disease. The right way to bend and to stretch are some disciplinary methods of alternative treatment which avoids back pain.
Sitting in an improper position will lead to minor to severe stiff back and is associated with stiff neck. Pain develops at the joints and radiates through the nerves emerging from the joints. Muscles are in a state of continuous contraction during the period of this posture which leads to injury to the fibers and muscles. To make matters worse, if your job is related to mental tension, you may have serious stiff neck which may result into a chronic sore neck. Conditions of the upper back are also a cause of back pain because the neck and the upper back have the same kind of muscles. It is the neck which is a source of back pain and the flexibility and strength of the shoulder and back muscles keep the neck in a balanced position. This will reduce stress in the muscles.
Having the right tools for your job is very important to prevent stiff back. A chair with a solid base and upright rest is the perfect one to make you sit in the right posture. Sit up straight with the buttock touching the back of the chair and your shoulder bent backwards. You can sit at the end of the chair and lean to keep your ergonomic position upright. Distribution of the body weight evenly on the hips will reduce stress and the risk of having stiff back . Keep your feet flat on the floor and bend your knees slightly towards the back.
If you have to at all sit in one position which your job demands, it is advisable not to sit in the same position for more than 30 minutes. Adjustment of the chair height is important and if the chair is of pivot style do not make your waist twist and instead turn your body in the direction which you want to avoid a sore neck.
